Studio Lab Case Study: Athena’s Project
Athena is a powerhouse vocalist, educator, experienced recording artist — and a member of the BugByte Hive faculty. With years of professional experience under her belt, including studio work and live performance, Athena came into Studio Lab not as a beginner, but as an artist looking to stretch.
For the first time in her career, she planned to record her own vocals at home and complete a single entirely remotely — from production to mastering. Studio Lab gave her the structure, mentorship, and tools to do exactly that.
The Process
✅ Song Selection & Arrangement
Athena brought in a polished, original song. In our kickoff session, we shaped the sonic direction, discussed instrumentation, and built out a tempo-locked demo to begin the workflow.
✅ Vocal Production at Home
Athena recorded her lead vocals in her home setup — a first for her. We walked through mic technique, comping, and how to shape a performance across multiple takes. She edited and applied pitch correction with real-time support, expanding her skillset as a self-producing artist.
✅ Session Players + Layers
We tapped Francesca’s network of top-tier session players to bring depth and musicality to the track. Francesca directed performance revisions and helped Athena build trust in the editing process. With fast-paced, pro-level sessions and high-caliber musicians, Athena experienced a new kind of efficiency — beyond anything she’d encountered in home or mid-level studios. It was the kind of streamlined, high-impact workflow she’d always imagined, but hadn’t accessed until now.
✅ Mix Prep & Mastering
Athena labeled and delivered stems like a seasoned pro. After reviewing a rough mix and making notes, the final track was sent for mastering — and returned as a fully polished, release-ready single.
